Hi all. I'm a Newby with a newly aquired 250. It needs a bit of final putting back together but came with no chain. Looking on ebay there appear to be two sizes for a 1979 model. How do I determine which one I need without one to compare. Cheers. Paul

Hi
If your talking about the difference between the "520" and "530 sizes of the chain, you need to check your sprocket width..
520 = is about 1/4" ( 6.00mm) and the 530 = is about 3/8" ( 10.00mm) . the pitch is the same 5/8" (16.00mm)

Hi and thanks for the quick reply. Is that the front or rear or both. Cheers. Paul

Just to add, your bike would have had a 530 from new.
Cheers

Well its about 6-7mm so a 520 it is.......I hope ? Thanks again Hi the blanks the sprockets are turned from are normally 9-10 mm and they turn the outer edge down to about 6.00 mm to achieve the 520 size. so there should be a ridge of about 1/16" ( 1.50 mm) visible on each side near the rim. Not 100% sure if all manufactures are the same. in other words measure twice pay once

Hi Graham. Sound advice which I took. There is no lip but I put an adjustable spanner on the sprocket and it is indeed just under 10mm so I need a 530 which another post said I would. The teeth go slightly smaller on the edge to about 8mm.
Glad I went back and checked.

Thanks Harold. Just bought a chain from David Silver so hopefully it will all be fine. Paul
