Stephen Fry is a fairly popular comedian over here, he recently done an interview with Gay Byrne, an aging but popular radio and TV personality in Ireland. Ireland is probably more conservative in many ways than the UK so this shocked a lot of people over here, especially older people. The leaders of the three main groups over here Catholic, Church of Ireland (Irish Anglian) and Presbyterian (Church of Scotland) have come out together and are up in arms over this interview. Stephen is about as popular with the these three leaders now as Salmon Rushdee was with the Ayatollah Kohmeini in Iran after he wrote his book. I expect that the Pope will be looking for Stephen Fry's head on a plate before long !
It made me laugh though, how different people over here are so entrenched in their own views which they have lived comfortably with all their lives.
