Hi all, has anyone any info or know of any pitfalls there may be in regeristing a bike from Poland. It has a Polish registration document with it and has a Honda manufacturing certificate with the correct frame and engine numbers.With Poland now in the EU would it be straightforward or a trauma ?

I looked into getting a CB400ND last year from Germany as some members may recall.
A lot of us got interested in that thread - I will try and find it and link it here. It revealed a few things. You have to pay VAT on it unless you can originally prove that it was paid when the bike was originally supplied - seemed daft to me on such an old bike. The dealer could not (in my case) prove the VAT was paid so I would have been clobbered our rate of 20% I think it was?
Once it's in the country and you can prove taxes etc have been paid, I don't think there would be any issue in getting it registered here.
Obviously, you have transportation cost unless it's already here or you intend to ride it home.

Thank you for that info. It seems i would need a special reciept for VAT purposes, its a private sale so i would hope the seller would be willing to help

Is the bike still over there?
I was 90% committed to buying a CB400ND but the seller, who was a dealer in Stuttgart, said he could not provide documentation to prove the VAT was paid.
So it would of cost me VAT on the bike and shipping.
There must be a way around it in certain cases........and my idea on that is the valuation of the machine, and not necessarily what you paid.....I think you get my drift? As in somehow a receipt is provided which shows the bike of much lesser value. Not that I am suggesting anything devious of course - something of course I wouldn't do..... . It depends on how bent the vendor wants to be for you.
But at the end of the day, we all know the appropriate German taxes were paid on that CB400ND when it was new. It is ridiculous when you think about it.

The bike is already in this country so i would hope any taxes have already been paid. Im going to have to see if all relevant paperwork is with it, if thats the case then it will be bought. If not i think its still worth a flutter on.

I wonder what's involved in importing a bike from the UK to Dublin, would it be the same as with Poland? Anyone here ever done it? I try to have as little as possible to do with the government over here, shower of greasy slime-balls, any dealings with them costs me money, time, frustration and heaps of errors on their part which cost me even more money and time to get rectified.
