I just saw a film this evening called the 'The Snapper', the film was made back about 20 years ago and is about a young working class Dublin girl who is the eldest of about 6 children, she goes on a night out drinking with her friends, gets drunk and becomes pregnant by 'Mr Burges' over the bonnet of a random parked car in a car park. Mr Burges is a friend of her father (drinking buddy), who is about 50 years old as well as being married and unemployed with about 6 more children of his own. He lives just up the road from the girl. The film is set in a working class area, with 'common-ish' type of people (but by no means impoverished) and is about how the pregnant girl and her family deal with the challenges presented from schools, neighbours, employers, church, younger children in both families, finances etc. It is very funny and a great insight into the culture in the working class communities of Dublin where every boys dream is to play for Manchester United. Although it's about 20 years old little has changed except for the technology, flat screen TVs, smart phones etc. The funniest part is Mr Burges dealing with the prospect that he will eventually be found out by everyone in the area as the bold guy and how he interrupts everything anyone says to him as a possibly having a double meaning and as a cut at himself.
