Hello,
I've just inherited a CB250NE. To be honest it's in pretty bad shape so is going to require a bit of work and lots of questions as it's the first bike I've fixed up. Firstly could anyone possiblytell me what year it is. The VIN is CB250NE - 2104453. Thanks in advance and I look forward to getting her up a running.

Hey there Belturbet - welcome along. The E in the CB250N-E means engine....if the engine number (near enough) tallies with the frame, it sounds like you have a CB250NA there............1980/1981 vintage. Any pics?

welcome dude.............history of the bike and how long has it been idle??
don't do a "fuzz"......as valves can and do stick......so a very gentle " awaking for its sleep"..........
see cmnsl for the EXPLODED views..........
plugs out and thin oil down each cylinder.........cam cover off and lube the valves etc...........
next day turn engine over ( anticlockwise at the flywheel side, l/h/s ) BY HAND, that's BY HAND, and watch the valves open and close.............if the flywheel turns and then goes "clunk" hitting something, check valves for being stuck! ( increasing valve gap is a clue ) donot bend any valves........
if the eng turns over ok, keep doing that until you see oil oooooozzzing from camshaft ends...........
when confident, you can then whizz the eng over on the starter with the plugs out and ign killed
next, remove the slotted plug on the r/h/s and see the quadrant and its slot. the quadrant rotates anticlockwise due to spring loading, whern the pinch nut is undone.
if there is still a slot laft then hopefully that is good. if you look very carefully at the centre 14mm nut, on the threaeded shaft you will see a "dot"..............where is the dot after adjustment ( spring loaded ) ?? if its noonish then that will be good also, much closer to 9 o clock means...............
anyways have a good xmas, take your time and enjoy.

happy new year dude!!
by now you have probably been thru the suggested method of waking your sd from its hibernation......but before you actually try to start the engine, check the charging system wires etc for being good, else run the risk of a burnt out genny!
