Probably Cheggys grandad modelling the ad!!!
January 81 eh? It was Christmas 80 that I was given my full Belstaff wax-cotton outfit from my parents.
I remember getting all togged up (Belstaff, derri-boots, seaboot socks, Frank Thomas gloves with silk liners, genuine Honda pullover and balaclava and Griffin lid) to go for a Christmas morning ride over to Heathrow. The sun was shining and there was hardly any traffic on the road - bliss!!!!!

I believe it is Mick Grant. I remember Barry Grant but not Mick - too young. Was he a racer?

How much would 60 quid in 1981 be now? I remember I really wanted one but by the time I had left college and could afford one I was out of bikes for a while.
At college I had to make do with a quilted nylon Castrol jacket- bought out of an offer or ad in MCN- that when I did fall off the CB200 grabbed the Tarmac, melted and turned me into a tumbleweed.....

How much would 60 quid in 1981 be now? Firstly, let's convert £ to USD......therefore at today's rate it is: £60 = $93.89
Now we can enter this figure into an inflation calculator.
And we get $243.92. Now simply convert back to GBP and we have a final figure of £155.76.
data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=93.89&year1=1981&year2=2014
Job's a gooden.

These models make me giggle, my mum found an old catalogue from the eighties... The underwear models are hilarious.

Empire Stores and Marshall Ward catalogues used to make me laugh.....my mum used to have new versions every autumn/winter & spring/summer.
I recall one of them used to also have Tomos mopeds at the rear.
The catalogues were thick old things - thicker than the phone book at the time.
