The 520s fronts are only available in (15&) 16T (which may be worth a try before going to 17T which is quite a big leap)

I don't think a 250 with a 17 on the front will cope with "a big heavy bugger" at all well! Are you sure you are going the right way?

I have a bigger front sprocket on mine, thought it was 17 but could be 16. It has dropped the revs a little but can struggle a wee bit more with a head wind. I'm only 9 stone though, if I were a 'heavy bugger' I think sticking with std gearing would be what I would do. try going up from 15 to 16 and see how it goes if you really want...

why can't you use 6th on the highway? if it wont pull 6th you don't want to go bnigger on the front as that is gearing it up even more, you'd want to go smaller on the front.

Took the word right off my keyboard Scott This was just how my 250 behaved at first, 'till I realised someone had raised the gearing.Going back to standard transformed the bike. If yours is already standard, maybe it's a weight issue, in which case try gearing it down slightly

(someone has not put a CB400N 36T on it have they). When my CB250NA arrive in the courier van it had 17T front and 36T rear 530 on it, hopelessly overgeared! First thing was to change it back to 15t/41t (520 )before I went anywhere.

That is extraordinary, 9.67 miles per litre ~ 43 mpg ish, there must be something amiss.
