What's the basic set up on 400 carbs, the left cylinder is working harder and running hotter than the left. There is no misfire but its easy to tell its not as on song carb wise compared to the left. Also where are the mixture/air screws located, thanks

Also where are the mixture/air screws located, thanks This is the slow running mixture/air screws, the rest is pre-set by jet sizes etc. there is also an adjustment for balancing the carb , normally used in conjunction with a pair vacuum gauges (although with the carbs off you can get very close by eye Lastly check the condition of the rubber plugs in the float bowel .

That's brilliant, thanks very much. Today when I was trying to sort it the air/mixture screw on right carb did nothing at when I adjusted it right in or out. So it seems it may be blocked inside. Right that's my job for tomorrow sorted ! Cheers Mark

Hi Suki First thing to check is that the manifold air hose rubbers are in good condition and that you have no air leaks. You really need to get hold of a manual, Haynes or Honda workshop manual for a full explanation of the procedures. Carburettor syncronisation is the next step, for this you will need a vacuum gauge set. This measures the vacuum of each cylinder intake. The pipes for the vacuum gauge set screw into holes in the cylider head inlet port. These holes are fitted with cross head screws, that are removed for fitting the vacuum gauge pipes. The vacuum is then adjusted to be equal for both carburettors, by an adjusting screw on the carburettor link shaft. Mixture setting should then be carried out by adjusting the pilot air screw, which is located under the carburettor towards the front end (manifold end). Idle speed adjustment is carried out with the throttle screw. This is located between the carburettors and has a black plastic knob. Vacuum gauge sets can be bought for about £40 for a twin carburettor set up, I managed to borrow a set to do mine. Make sure all other things are right first though eg. valve clerances and ignition components. Good luck. Mike.
