....on ME, not the bike.
Bit of a shocker really...................
Doc is worried about my ECG results. Had a few 'issues' lately that I put down to indigestion, but no. Seems I may have the onset of 'unstable angina'.
Bit worrying really.........need to make appt with the cardio chappie at the krankenhaus.
Biggest shock was being told that the next time I feel that I have 'indigestion' I have to dial 999 tout suite and no messing!!!!!
I am not one to usually bother the docs or NHS unnecessarily, but got a good telling off by the man in the white coat when I said this........
Must be getting old.........................

Your docs right Carl 40% of heart attacks are mistakenly passed of as indigestion other symptoms to watch for are a coppery taste in the mouth like sucking an old penny, pain in the lower jaw, shakes and profuse sweating numbness in the arm and chest pains ,but dont expect all of them a lot of heart attack patients get no chest pains at all if you experience any of the above take two aspirins and dial 999 ,dont lay down sit by the door and wait for the paramedics .in the meantime cut out dairy products ,cheese etc say no to fried foods and anything else high in cholesterol .Take care mate

Cheers guys - appreciate it!!!
Terry - that's the strange thing......my cholesterol is actually low (even surprised the doc!!) and my blood pressure is normal. I do like a cold glass of fresh milk in the morning and the only fried food I have is a bacon sarnie for breakfast on a Friday morning at work. All bread eaten is granary, I use olive oil spread instead of butter and eat wholemeal pasta and brown rice. However, I do weaken on a sunday when some scrambled egg on toast goes down well for brekkie and a sunday roast (usually chicken or pork) rounds the day off nicely.
I cant even say I drink to excess - except for coffee......and THAT, I have been told, has to be reduced drastically.
Unfortunately, I think this may be 'historic' in that I didnt used to eat (reasonably) healthily (although I have for the past 8 years), and the biggest no-no being that I smoke.............
Still, Flo knows where the insurance policies are - and I keep telling her that I am worth more to her in a box.........
Funny though - she doesnt agree!!!!!

Just a severe tightening across the chest and difficulty breathing - had to gulp air. And just before all this, what felt like toothache. It completely knocks me off kilter - have to stop what I am doing and just sit it out. It usually passes in about 5 minutes or so. Concentration goes out the window!!! First episode was about 2 years ago, then nothing for about 18 months and now it seems to happen more often. My MOT was with BUPA as one of my 'benefits' at work, so the doc was not 'my' doc - but he insisted that I see 'my' doc without delay to discuss as, if it was up to him, I would be in A&E that day having tests!!!! He was quite insistent and serious about it.....

Hi Greybeard, I'm not sure why the editor program put my comment inside the same box as your quote, so I just though I would re-post my comment again here separately.

One of things I used to get a lot but it went away a few years ago of its own accord once I started walking every day, was that before when I stood up after being sitting down for a while, I used to feel week in the head and have to sit back down again for a while and make a second attempt at standing up, the daily walk seems to have cured that for good.

Going on your symptoms Carl it definately sounds like angina see your quack as soon as , probably a blocked artery somewhere ,if as you said it is unstable then this means a full blown heart attack is possible at any time .My heart attack woke me up from sleep that was ten years ago and I was diagnosed with unstable angina .It is now stable but I'm on medication for life .I have three lots statins to keep the cholesterol down atenolol which slows my heart rate and clopidogeral to thin my blood most people take aspirin for this but I'm allergic to that .Start with two aspirins a day untill you see your quack to keep your blood thin it will help and dont touch ibuproven as it can trigger a heart attack in angina sufferers but see your quack as soon as poss Carl. Going on what you have said too Scania I would reccomend you go see your doc too

Sorry to hear your not too well Carl, get to the Doctors mate and get it checked out thoroughly the truth is these conditions are pretty manageable I think if you look after yourself and get the correct treatment. I ended up in the cardiac unit a few years ago with an irregular heartbeat and it is scary, ran me through a lot of tests but everything was OK they did put me on aspirin but I don't take them. Maybe I should, I think your suffering from too many birthdays like most of the rest of us Keep your chin up Carl and look after yourself. I done a first aid course recently which included CPR so you should be OK, oh hold on they never showed me how to do it over tinternet, bollox

Mate, don't take any chances. There's no point being the nicest bloke in the graveyard. Make sure you trouble your GP. That's what they do. We're at an age where we can take nothing for granted. Be a proper pain in the ass and get it sorted. Don't take this the wrong way, but you're very good at giving quality advice, do yourself a favour and take some.... Oh and quit the fags, I know it's easier said than done. I had a "wobble" a few years back, I knocked the fags on the head and my chest is 100% better than it was. I went with the fruity gum, chuffing loved the stuff, nearly over did it with them, I was taking them like sweets. One day I stopped completely and never looked back. Do it mate...

Carl I can only reiterate what others have said, get it checked and soon. In the mean time try and lay of the fags and take life a little easier.
Realistically your still young, 50 is the new 30 so they say and I'm not that far behind you (most of us are around the same age apart from that young Fungo lad) so most of us will be feeling/suffering similar stuff sooner rather than later!!
Take it easy fella and best of luck.
