we have been looking through the members list, and there are some members who have not made a single post,
the only rule we have on this forum is, if no post or reply is made in three months of start date, the members will be removed,
we have been very easy on this rule up till now, so members who have not made a post or reply will be removed in
seven days. we think we have given enough time, some have been on here since january.

Does it affect anything if they remain? Why remove them, what purpose does it serve? I guess people start with good intentions then change their plans. I'm just not sure where the value lies in deleting them. Certainly if we have trouble makers then I get the point but inactive members are just that. We all go through peaks and troughs from time to time, but if there's a genuine reason why it helps then I have no objections. I think you will always have the problem and I suspect most forums do.

Perhaps the way to go is to delete anyone that has not contributed at all from say January to April (for example) and no one else for now.

That's what we will do then. I shall give them seven days still. See what happens.

I think it should be emphasised to everyone that this decision has not come around lightly.......and to re-iterate the fact that it is a rule that was stated from day one by Steve and we should respect that.
I am not a fan of rules and heavy handedness on a forum (as you know from what happened on the old site) but there has to be some guidelines.
Personally, I think removing members that appear to be on here for no apparent reason is not a big issue. Having 2000 odd members is not impressive to me if only 20% regularly contribute, for example. This will only be an issue if there is some kind of hidden agenda with wanting to appear to have a large active membership.
Bottom line, if you want to stay then get involved, even if it's to say something daft (like most of us do, most of the time).

I think it is ultimately fair.

You know what they say rules is rules or rule is rule in our case It's not a lot to ask for someone to post at least once every 3 months, plus if they are interested and have been dormant for a while they can always rejoin if deleted. It's quality not quantity that counts, get rid of the dead wood Steve I think it also helps safeguard the forum.

One observation that may or may not be relevant.
We do have a very large amount of people that have hotmail.co.uk or gmail.co.uk accounts as their contact emails.
It's just an observation - draw from it what you will.

Are we making a distinction between those that have been on the site in the last 3 months and not posted- lazy arses but still interested, and those who have not been on the site at all in the last 3 months- buggered off and no longer interested at all?
Why not PM all those who are still around and accessing the site but not posting and politely encourage them to join in- maybe they feel a bit intimidated.....

It's not a ban....
To ban someone is dirty and offensive - especially when it is done for no justifiable reason.

I am with Steve on this one. I think some 'members' have registered in the past to gain access to, or to see elements of, the forum that are 'closed' to Guest browsers - sales areas etc. comes to mind. When they have taken a look at all they wanted then they beggar off. I know our sales & wants and ebay areas are restricted to those with a certain post count, but Guests dont know that until they sign up.
It is quite easy for Staff to check a member's activity on here - when they log in for example - so we are unlikely to close the account of a member who regularly logs in to read what is happening but fails to post anything....maybe they feel they have nothing to say at the moment? Many forums (fora?) have this issue - some have a regular cull, others just carry on regardless.
