Nice looking bike. A mechanic told me years ago that the CB250RS was not as reliable and it's engine did not last as long as the CB250n, I have forgotten the reason, it might have been something about greater heat being produced in the head but with a smaller surface area to dissipate it leading to over heating or something like that. Can anyone here refresh my memory on this one?

i was told that the cam bearings shells used to break, maybe why the heads fetch top dollar.

i was told that the cam bearings shells used to break, maybe why the heads fetch top dollar. That is probably it and maybe it relates to heat as well. On a separate note I have a Suzuki GS125 of year 2000 which I am in love with as I passed my A1 test on it years ago and have some good memories with it. I was told that the GS125 do not have cam shell bearings at all and that the cam turns in just aluminium, this can lead to cylinder head failure and a shorter engine life compared to bikes that do have cam bearings. Just wondering does anyone know if cam bearings can be retro fitted into the GS125 head as a mod to make the engine last longer. Also does the Honda cb125 or Honda CG 125 have cam bearings or are they the same as the Suzuki GS125, I like the look of the 1980 cb125 and the 1996 CG125, any CG125s after 2002 look small and cheap.

CB250RS - my memory is that it confused the hell out of everyone at the time as the rest of the Honda range all meshed together, with the SD 250 in there with the Comstar wheels, etc. Engine from the 250 trailie, spoked wheels, square headlight- it just didn't fit. Built to a budget? It wasn't built in Brazil or somewhere was it? I think the attraction was the price and for a similar power as the other 250's it was pretty light.
I think they suffered from top end problems- sure I remember the camshaft ran directly in the cast head? Very low oil quantity in the engine so abused/neglected it ran dry, small and difficult to get to oil filter. Ate chains and sprockets- front sprocket too small and cush drive not very good? I'm looking but not finding details but there was also a change back to a bigger 530 chain on the later models- suspicious quick fix when everything else was going the other way and fitting lighter chains.
I see this one does not have the original engine, so maybe the engine problems are over, but I think you have to put a very good oil in them and change it very, very often.
Nice looking bikes though!

I must say, as i have said in the past...i do like the RS250 and the idea of it, but as Paul said, its a mix'n'match somewhat.
I would try to change the front light, but then it would not be original and just my reflection of how I see it looking, so would leave it alone.
I will get one, not this year, but maybe next year when my workshop/shed is complete.
Nice looking bike though.
Gee.
