Same happening up here. Ten years ago Westgate Road in Newcastle was 1/4 mile of door-to-door small bike shops, both sides of the road.
Most have closed now apart from main dealers, pretty much all of them will probably close/relocate in the coming years due to internet shopping and property development. Proper shame!
I've had friends go there and try on gear with no intention to buy, but go home and order online. These same friends are constantly lamenting the demise of "the hill" saying "it's not what it used to be".

Any way a couple of weeks go by and he gets in from work and he gets a clip around the ear from his mother,he says what was that for ? she replies I have just seen u on the tele roaring round the streets like a lunatic,maybe if he had a full face helmet she would not have spotted him 
just thought it was a funny little story!
