I thought ethanal was a diesel substitute derived from corn mostly grown in the US.
My Honda CB400n already sounds very agricultural, somewhere between a Massey Fergusan 135 tractor and a cement mixer, so does that mean it will run fine on this new EU ethonal stuff?

We have ethanol fuel down here. Its an option, and not mandatory. Its added only as a "filler" as its easier & cheaper to refine. The RAA here did a elaborate study with two identical vehicles, covering quite a few thousand miles, each one with the different fuels. The bottom line was ethanol is cheaper, hence the hype...... but the ethanol engine used more fuel to keep up with the standard fuel, making it less efficient financially. I prefer to use premium on the bikes, as they were designed / made in japan who have better fuel quality & generally higher octane. There are an infinite amount of blends / octanes available, so its entirely up to you. I personally would not as ethanol due to it being the closest element to methanol. Anyone using remote control methanol motors in their planes / cars / choppers, or even top fuel drag cars know that your fuel lines & motor need to be stripped to clean the fuel out to reduce corrosion from the fuel..... Bugger that.

Ireland is in the common market so it probably allready is . We call it the common dictatorship, they regulate everything to the point of stupidity as well as generating huge amounts of red tape and paperwork, its all geared to prevent handy people saving a few shillings doing a Diy job himself.
There is even regulations on the way for jacks paper, width of roll, diameter of roll and gauge and texture of paper. They have also banned any ''joke 'jacks paper with political satire on it from being sold in Ireland.

What is the best fuel we can use in the bikes right now...
I mean is there a certain brand? Say shell performance plus or something? Or whatever the hell they call it.

Weird in a way isn't it?
Just read that Frost article that Steve uploaded.......so it's okay to put alcohol in your car but it is not okay to drive with alcohol in your bloodstream?
Now, I'm no rocket scientist - but there is increasing talk of cars being able to drive themselves in the near future......and if they have alcohol in their bloodstream (petrol) then it simply needs to be banned.
I hope you can see where I'm coming from. I don't want to live in a society that has lots of drunk cars trying to get us.

I don't think there is cause for alarm right now- as per the letter Terry put up some people are putting super-unleaded into older cars and bikes as this is less likely to contain ethanol. but this depends on brand and where you are in the country. If you are regularly using a bike I still say normal unleaded will be ok....

Do you buy the aspen from those guys direct? Or off ebay?

I'm going to nip down the lock up today and drain the fuel out of the Undercover and my bandit and re-new it for a start off.
I'm glad I have a spare set of nos carbs and nos tanks for these beauties.

With our bikes Paul I agree with you as we dont run them far (mostly) and carbs and fuel lines are checked and cleaned regular because we have to

Don't you think the harm is done to the carbs though?
I mean with the fuel sitting in them? And I don't mean stale fuel - we all know stale unleaded is bad news.
But this stuff may attack the components in there.

I tried to buy the Aspen by the pallet but they said I had to go through the local dealer network, but I would get a discount. I thus spent a frustrating hour at the local lawnmower dealer, trying to buy this freakin' pallet- which would be sent direct from Aspen anyway- but the guy would only order me a couple of packs (each pack is 3x5litre) on special order. Some sales technique, but I still got the discount. This then took 2 weeks to show up.
I really do think you should put Aspen in the Undercover Nick, happy to get you some at trade discount. But if you don't, next best might be to leave it with tank brimmed but carbs drained of super-unleaded. Remember ethanol has an affinity for water, so what happens is it absorbs moisture out of the air, the water collects at the bottom, tank goes rusty. If you brim the tank it keeps the air/fuel interface to a minimum- yes I am sad enough to have researched this!
