Just bought '79 Silver 250 SD, very original, only 10K miles. Have previously owned 3x SD. Thought that joining a Forum would be a good idea. Would be nice to meet others with similar interests. Have also 1980 Yam XS250 and Suzi GSX, all in great shape.

Thanks All,
This seems to be a good place for us nostalgia buffs. Hope to get a few photos sorted soon. Problem with the S/Dream .... Starts and sounds like new but ran it for about 10 mins last night and after this, RHS downpipe was glowing red ! Never seen this before ! Checked plugs today and they both looked identical and good. Any ideas ?? Only had the bike a few days, but apart from the o/ heating issue the bike is great. Quite surprized by how many original parts are still available - D. Silver, CMS etc. Does anyone know the code for the 1978 / 79 Siler Paintwork ?
Thanks and Regards All, H.

Hi,
Thanks for prompt response. Both RHS and LHS plugs look like typical ' good ' examples from Haynes' manual. Plugs were very gently tightened as were the Downpipes. I'll investigate more later this week and get back to you.
Any assistance is much appreciated .......... I'm good on the cosmetic / general maintenance stuff, but not so hot on engine work !
Thanks Again, H.

Totally with you on that, Delph....I'm good on that stuff, too but no engine stripping grease monkey. But we do have some mechanical boffins on here......so everything is catered for, generally.

Welcome. Looking forward to those pictures. I haven't had any overheating problems myself, but one suggestion I have seen is an air leak at the carb rubbers. IIRC, if you squirt carb cleaner around the joints & the revs increase, then you have an air leak. Think WD40 might work too. You'd think that would show on the plug though ?

Hello Again,
Did a load of work over the weekend checking various stuff............ compression, leaks, air cleaner, etc. Conclusion is that all is OK, which concurs with the sweet sounding motor. Looks as though pattern downpipes will get V. Hot if not tightened up properly ( should have checked this really - will do so in future ).
Thanks to all who suggested various checks ......... much appreciated. Push - In compression tester highly recommended for ease and piece of mind ( cheap on e - bay ).
Anyway. Thanks again all. I look forward to having the Superdream, XS and GSX 250s all on the road next springtime.
