I probably wouldn't normally post this sort of thing, but due to recent videos and the like I though I would share this utter head shaking moment with everyone.
I was three miles into my journey to work this morning coming off a roundabout and travelling about a quarter of a mile to a right hand turn into a different road. There is a box in the middle of the road for right turns with an island at the front.
Now normally I only use my indicators when necessary, always having a good look around to check whether or not I need them ( I feel this makes me more aware, luckily for this guy!)
Now I'm only 150 yards from the island and I see in the rear view a bike overtaking a car, with lights on, just off the roundabout. I think to myself that he's moving quickly and that I need to make him aware that I intend to enter the box and turn right, bear in mind he is now less than a quarter of a mile away and closing on me rapidly.
I indicate right and check my mirror, hes still accelerating, I move further right in the lane to close off the lane to the white lines in the center, he's STILL accelerating, I'm now less than 50 yards from the island and at the right hand side of the lane next to the white lines.
At this point I realise that he is not going to change direction and go to the left of me, I also realise that if I continue and he continues we are going to meet at the island in the middle of the road, he cant go to the right of the island as it will place him in the path of the oncoming traffic.
So I make the decision for him and brake, harder than I would to make the turn, and slow down enough for him to pass between me and the island and all the time he is STILL accelerating!!!
I estimate his speed somewhere between 60 - 80mph on a 50mph road with side roads either side along its length at 7:30am when a lot of people are pootling their way to work still in a haze of sleep.
So the rider of a blue R1, in the Leatherhead area, you have had a lucky escape today!

Well done dazz, i have saved people from crashing into me from predicting outcomes like that one you had, but having said that there are times when if i do make a mistake i allways hold my hands up and gesture a wave of apology to admit my guilt, i bet the R1 rider had no idea how lucky he was.

Fortunately Daz at least one of you was paying attention, unfortunately riding a bike doesn't mean your not an a**hole sometimes, there are people out there riding bikes who feel they have a point to prove, he probably saw you in front of him and was determined to get past you, just to show how fast he is, luckily for him you proved to be the better rider.

I agree it's this type of nutter that sometimes gets us all tarred with the same brush.
When I was doing my placement this year in Worcester, every morning there used to be a nutcase on the A422 riding a nineties GSXR750 (single track 60 road in most parts with double white central lines on the majority of it) weaving in and out of traffic and doing at least 80 mph.......absolute thrill seeker...at it all year round as well right through the winter too in the dark. Often he was closing in on me head on and I had to slow down so he could get back over.
Do us a favour and keep it off the roads.......get your kicks at Alton Towers!

Saw a good T Shirt which said "Straights are for fast bikes, corners are for fast riders." I think that applies to a lot of these a**holes.

Stevie I don't even think he realised what was going on, he didn't acknowledge me or look back. There was no drama as I had assessed the situation and taken avoiding action before he even realised what may have happened! I'm no saint, don't get me wrong, I like a bit of speed but my road awareness as I grow older certainly is becoming better and better!! However I do still make mistakes I'm only human!!

I think we all like a blast.......we are not a boring lot - it's why we are into bikes.
But there is a time and a place.....
