Hi all, looks like I have a problem. The frame number on my bike is CB250N 2106684. The engine number is CB400NE 2110000. The reg is NNF 96W its date date of registration is 12-9-1980. Looks like I've got a pup, can anyone shed any light on this for me. Cheers Mark

Mark.
Frame is originally an early CB250N-A model - I'd estimate with a reg date of around Sep 1980.
Engine from a CB400N-A - slightly later perhaps with a reg date around Jan 1981.
Nice engine number that, though.......so don't be too down. What are your worries?

The frame and engine dont match the year of registration, worried incase its on false plates so to speak

Is this Steve Berry's old bike ? Apparently his girlfriends. Is there a difference in the 250 and 400 frame ? Couldnt check when i looked at it as the frame has been powder coated and completely hid the numbers.

While not ideal for a resto, Its no big issue having a 250 frame with a 400 engine. As far as I'm aware the frames are identical. My Dream's like that, it's a 250t and had a 400t lump chucked in at some point in it's life but the CC and frame/engine numbers are correct on the V5C. Your HPI? check may be incorrect (wouldn't be the first) check out your V5 when it comes back. If the engine number doesn't match then that's nowt to worry about, it can be changed. The frame number's the important one. If the stamped frame number on the headstock doesn't match the V5 then you may have big problems, check out this thread. frame numbers

Well I got the V5 back today and my worst fears have been confirmed. Its got the 400 frame number on it, the engine number and number plate are correct on the log book but its defo a 250 frame. Gutted !!!! I've messaged Davefirestorm who has a spare frame, so fingers crossed, because the whole project has ground to halt.

Can you not just get the frame changed over with DVLA or is it not that simple?
I'd have thought that as long as the frame is not nicked there would not be an issue......the 250 frame is the same as 400.

Most probably been in an accident and bent the frame. So the frame was replaced, previous owner didn't bother getting the correct frame. I checked the engine number matches the registration but not the frame. I got vin no. 2109992
