Hi Guys, I have a bit of a crazy idea where which I would like to get opinions on.
I have a Honda CB250 NightHawk (spooked wheels and front drum)under the stairs which appears to have a good low millage engine on it. The reason I never done much with it is because it looks a bit 'girlie', especially the tank and the seat, also the tail cowl. But it is a lovely bike to ride and is very well build.
What I like about it most is that it has a small simple looking single carburettor which feeds both cylinders via a 'Y' manifold. Also, over all the bike looks very simple, robust and easy to maintain, it is also very light, feels like 2/3 the weight of my Sd bikes.
All the same, I don't value it like my Superdreams so I was looking at using the NightHawk as an everyday hack! and keep my Superdreams dry.
I had been thinking of replacing the Tank and seat with an SD tank and an SD seat and an SD tail cowl, SD side panels and SD back light! I might have to build the seat up a bit as it is very low.
Just wondering has anyone here ever done anything like that or saw anyone do it?
I am in Ireland, I wonder would Carol Nash insure it?

Yes, it is exactly identical to that one, but mine looks a little bit rougher but still looks fairly good, its 1993 reg.

Yes - that was called the CB250N here (Single carb made between 1992 and 1998 ish) - but from memory it had white mag wheels.

I was told that it was an American import and that the American version has the spooked wheels and front drum brake, while the European version has alloy wheels and a front disk brake.
I wasn't thinking of cutting the bike or making and permanent changes, just a dressing up to make it look a bit more robust looking and still keep the original parts so that I could always put it back the way it was if I was ever selling it. I would never destroy any bike.

I agree it looks a bit bland and it is different strokes for different folks. Quite how you would jazz her up I don't know but there will be a way.

Lift the front mudguard after replacing it with a motocross one, put some knobblies on it, spay it Matt black and then ride it like you stole it. Or put it on eBay and buy some nice shoes with the proceeds

What about the use of some Paper Mache?
I remember there was a machine on the other now defunct forum which caused much controversy - it was labelled as a rat bike and done in an army scheme.
That bike was a rotter to be fair.

Looks like a totally different frame to me,so dont think SD bits would fit anyway, would have to try em to find out. Tell you what tho, if you ever decide to swap the spoked wheels out for alloys I'll buy em off you-they would look mint on my Bobber!!!

Some interesting ideas there.

I am thinking that if I build up the seat a bit, especially the front of the seat, maybe level it out a bit or replace the seat altogether then that would do a lot for it. A carrier on the back might make the back look a bit more robust, maybe crash bars for the front. I don't want to destroy the bike in any way, I just figure out ways to give it a bit more character.
Any more opinions and ideas welcome, I don't want to rush into it until I have a good mix of ideas.

I think its quite a nice looking bike as standard and I think you would struggle to find a seat which would look any more right than the standard one. That said I think it would make a great cafe racer or flat tracker without too much modification with the spoked wheels and drum brakes. A Honda Rebel tank may fit straight on as I think they share the same platform and that matched with a flat tracker seat should look good if done correctly.
