All parts ordered, this bike is costing an arm and a leg and a foot off the other leg I know what you mean, I tidied my last few years of DSS reciepts and some ebay items to file last night, I'm afraid to add them up (and I've not done any engine work yet)

Still, its the enjoyment of it all. If I weren't fixing bikes or messing with em or riding bikes i'd have women on my mind and there definitely more expensive and you can't shine em up so good after 30 odd years

Piles of lovely Nos have arrived today, but the double O-Ring isn't there(NLA) but on the plus side I have all my bearings(shells) and I think these are still available from Honda.

It seems like I dropped a boll#@k when I ordered from DS last week...... Instead of ordering 10 bearing shells for a 250ndb I ordered for a 400ndb So after a quick phonecall to DS I have sent my shells back and re-ordered from CMS in Holland because DS havn't got any of the shells I want in stock. But my other bits were fine

The engine is never gonna be fixed due to CMS not having the bits that I need, coupled with DS not having the bits either. This bike will probably never run again. I might part it out but the way I feel today I feel like setting fire to her.

Sorry to hear that , There is a problem accruing with the common sizes of shell both for 250's and 400's . I believe some members have contacted (e.mail) specialist shell manufactures to see if they can help . Not heard of any response yet.

Main Shells and Conrod Shells.. because DS doesn't have the sizes that I need and now it seems neither do CMSL!!! As you can imagine it's making me feel depressed, there was a finite amount of these parts and now they are running out.

These shells are totally above me and I ultimately respect you guys that understand the issue - you are the true mechanical minds among us.
Can anyone break it down for me ?

Basically Nick, if we cant find someone to supply new bearing shells then our bikes will eventually become garage queens and ornaments.
The engines wont run without them......
A note to DS is in order on this point methinks!!!

Yep, I can The crank runs in basically 3 sets of main bearing shells, these shells are tight fitting and let the crank float on a cushion of oil and the same for the conrods. The bearing shells are covered in a white metal which helps with longevity, and keeping the crank from grinding itself away. Obviously after time, misuse and thrashing these bearing shells and conrod shells wear out, they basically wear away and the thousandths X of an inch gap gets bigger and allows metal to metal contact, big end knock/whining etc etc

So.......
Although we will find NOS items (I know Harpers in Cowley very well) reproduction is the only key to our future survival?
Are other bikes affected in this way?
