hi folks some good and bad news to share with everyone.... yesterday i passed my Mod 2 test with only 1 minor and i was the happiest lad around! so i got home with a huge grin on my face and booked my bikes MOT and got my insurance all sorted ready to take the bike to the garage this morning as the bike was running better than ever last week i was pretty confident it would pass......... the bad news...... never mind the MOT i couldnt even get the bike started to get there!! the UNhappiest lad around im now getting no spark what so ever, i must have been getting some spark because it was trying to start but running really slow and wouldnt stay running without me holding on the throttle. but now im getting nothing out of each lead so im gonna test the resistance through the coil tomorrow and probably get one off david silvers. so just a quick question, the coils on david silvers dont have the lead coming off with the 2 pin plug, they just have one spade connector on the body of the coil? does one of the cables go to the spade connector and just earth the other?

Don't get a pattern coil - quite a few people have reported problems with them - get a s/h one off ebay. Try the plugs first, I've had a couple fail after just taking them out & putting them back - made in China?!

try disconnecting the cdi black/white ( ign kill ) wire first.......earth the cdi kill wire to kill the ign.........disconnecting the kill wire by the cdi effectively removes the rest of the kill circuit.....there may be a fault in the main loom and switches etc...........the eng will not stop till this wire is earthed..............
from memory coil res test is 20k ohms tween plug cap to plug cap............1 ohm tween yellow LT and earth............check all cdi system wire connections for green corrosion etc etc etc .......
there is a "bible" on here with all info............
the ht leads......are they "wobbly" where they go into the coil?? the leads are soldered in and sometimes break inside where they go into the coil............wasted spark system.......plugs clean and gapped?? a dirty plug can "track" on the cyl insulator ( nose and central conductor, the inside the cyl bit ) and rob spark............
red neon plug caps are a good and cheap visual aid for ht........ps the cam cover is insulated so don't rest plugs on there to test for spark......make a test rig, 2 usable plugs welded ( or threaded ) to a steel bar with a flying croc clipped earth wire.........

So what are actually wrong with the pattern coils? Do they work for a while then just break down or are they just generally no good from the start What problems do they give you?

The one I bought the bike just would'nt start at all. I rang Silvers expecting an argument and he just said "thats ok send it us back" took me by surprise that did .These coils must work on something or they would'nt keep selling them but Superdreams just don't like them at all
