Woohoo got a pay rise this month 3% on my salary which has been the same since I started here nearly 2 yrs ago. They only gave the pay rise reluctantly as the worker union and professional association said that one was needed and recommended a rise of at least 3% After hefty tax etc. I am now £67.50 per month better off I am no further ahead than I was 6 years ago, in fact the pay in my pay has gone down nearly £150 per month even with the raise. Because of what I earn I have to pay some child maintenance back too so whichever way we go we are earning and taking home less than those next door who only have one worker in the family and that's part time too!! (in real terms we have more money but get less tax back and claim no benefits!) I may have to look at taking on some extra work for the next year or so until our little one starts school and the missus can go back to more hours. Is it just me or does it seem the harder you work the more they take from you and the less it seems to matter to them that you are struggling, I am no political animal, I favour no party over another and believe that they are all deep down lying, conniving, self serving evil bastards, that could not care less for the likes of you and I. How can we be out of recession ( I never really believed there was one anyway) and everything be on the up yet the ordinary Joe in the street is no better off??? How are you being affected?? I'm not complaining (well not much) just observing!

Times are hard mate, were contemplating having to put the butler on short time. If push comes to shove then I'll have to polish my own bike.

When I was working and paying for childcare (single parent), I was worse off that if I'd have been on the dole, that was a struggle. Things are better now nipper is 14. Saying that, his education is all going to shit at the moment so might need to pay for private lessons. Its all swings and round abouts in life, but I am fortunate I have my health, well most of it, I always try to think that there are people a lot worse off than me both physically and financially. Politicians are only there for their own career progression, so they are always the same. Taxes and prices always go up, and the working man pays for the rich to sleep in big houses.

The modern equivalent of "Let them eat cake"! Love it! Just remember we were not in a recession until they told us we were, so let's wait and see if they can talk us out of it......not.

Yep your right Cheggs, give the money to some 'charity' or other then they can spend it on paying HUGE media costs to get their campaign into our living rooms at 8pm everynight!!! I was recently asked, whilst walking through a shopping centre, if I would like to help the starving children of some third world country or other. The girls selling the tickets or whatever became rather indignant when I asked if she would put her hand in her pocket to help me out with my three kids as one of them had a birthday soon. She pointed out that these children were starving and mine weren't, to her I was a white middle class (hate the term) male with thousands a year disposable income and it was my duty to help her brethren (she was of foreign extraction) in whatever way I could. I pointed out to her that I do in my taxes as we, as a nation, spend billions in aid helping these countries out on a regular basis and that this year my kids would have to put up receiving a present that was perhaps third or fourth on their list, however if she could contribute then they may get something higher up the list. Her reply was along the lines of I don't know your kids and will never meet them so why should I bother.....................that my friends was also my reply to her!!!! Needless to say when she thought I was out of earshot she said a few choice things about me and when passing by again glared at me hoping I would drop down dead.

Charity Mugging, guilt tripping you on your own (rented) doorstep! I signed up just to get rid of the eager little bastard, telling him as I did it that I would cancel it before any money was taken,he wasn't actually bothered because he would get his quota. I did,as promised , cancel the DD with my bank and let the charity know since then I have had endless calls to try and guilt trip me back, even tho I explained that I am self employed and awaiting surgery so am living on what I have put away to get me through this lean period (no sick pay for self employed Harris!)Am currently topping up by selling bits and bobs on ebay. I do many charity events each year with my bands and help raise thousands for Air Ambulance and Cancer Charities, two causes both close to my heart,so I am not un-charitable but I do not take kindly to being bullied into contributing to some thing that some one tells me I should. Rant over - time to go to the happy place IE; the bikes' garage!

Its the case of the outgoings equaling more than the incoming's and as a salaried member of staff there is nothing I can do to enhance my earnings at work. If I work longer hours it just means I am working longer hours not getting paid more. There are many many more people like me around I'm not different that most or special but it is beginning to bug me a bit. Sure we chose to have three kids and we don't ask for any handouts but when you see a family of 12 earning £30 odd thousand a year for nothing it does get your back up!! Without us working folk there couldn't be a social care system to support them!
