Hello it's Ben here, unfortunately after visiting the other Superdream forum the other day and finding it was deleted i stumbled across this place and i hope you don't mind me joining this one Anyway this is my bike: A 1980 Honda CB250NA Superdream bought off eBay September 2012 and i but it back on the road after 10 years of being stored in a garage, luckily for me in was in pretty good condition so i did'nt really need to do much to it. How it looked after put it back on the road I enjoyed over a year or so of riding it but had to use it everyday for college so it's condition deteriorated quite alot, here it is at the moment after i've started to take it apart: As well as saying hello i need to ask a few questions that will help me get my bike back into decent working order and looking a bit better. First one is i need to to the oil seals on the front forks, got the seals but don't know how much oil i need in the forks. As you can see my engine is looking pretty scabby, how can i go about cleaning it up? (i'm stuck on this one as it's covered in aluminium rust and got no idea how to tackle it ) Last one how do i adjust the balancer chain and cam chain as both are incredibly rattly and i'm sure i'm not doing the cam chain adjusting right as nothing happens Thanks alot guys Glad to be back on the Superdream forum. I miss my SD a lot and i've missed being apart of the forum and love seeing other people get up to with there SD's P.S am i the youngest member on here? I'm 19 lol and most people don't get why i got an SD over something more modern, faster and better on petrol hahaha

Ohh and here's my other bike currently being put back into a relatively road worthy state (i would say resto but i can't afford it and don't have the resources or garage to do so :L) It's a 1982 Suzuki FR50, bought off ebay for £50 found in a house clearance, lukily for me it still has it's numberplate so getting the V5 was nice and easy, turns out it had one owner from new (1982) and for some reason stopped using it in 1988 and it sat in a shed ever since :L

Your SD doesn't look much worse than mine, I started with a fairly tidy 250N at 18 and 3 years later its looking rather tatty with constant use. But hey, thats what they are for. Good to see your giving her a tidy up. I think the only way to really get your engine looking clean again might be to take it out Nice FR50 there. I used to have a C50, good fun the step thru's. the Suzuki should be a bit quicker being 2stroke. We must have similar taste in bikes. I don't do modern either!

Hi Ben, glad you came along too! I think it's 140cc in the early forks. As for cleaning the engine, some people have mentioned decent results with some stuff you paint on & rinse off, alu-clean?, alu-brite? I'm sure someone will remember what it's called I did mine with a wire brush in an electric drill & it came up pretty good. I wouldn't recommend the angle grinder wire brushes, they're a bit fierce. For the cam chain, you need to take the lh engine (alternator) cover off and turn the engine 'till the 'T' mark on the rotor aligns with the marker on the upper crank case (TDC) then loosen the lower nut on the rear of the cylinder. This is the guide adjustment nut, the top one is the fixed mounting bolt. The Haynes manual also recommends you remove the cam cover & push down on the top of the guide at the same time, as it can 'stick'. Tighten the nut & your done. The balance chain adjustment is behind the small round cover on the rh engine (clutch) cover. In theory, you remove this cover, loosen the 12mm nut behind it & a spring tensions the chain, then tighten the nut again. There may not be enough adjustment left, so if you've not done it before, it may be worth dropping the oil & removing the complete rh cover so you can see what's going on. Sounds like you could do with picking up a Haynes manual off ebay
