Guys...
I know this is a bit off the wall and totally nothing to do with Motorbikes.......but a quick question to you.
How long do you think the average decking should last?
Just went around my old house (that we now rent out) after complaints from the tenants about it being rotten in places and I have to admit - I nearly fell through the damn thing.....
Any thoughts?
Boards used at the time were the average ribbed kind you can find at B & Q right now.

It is adviseable to used a treated or tanalised timber and regularly treat it, Left to the weather normal timber (untreated) will last about 3-5years if your lucky, we have had a lot of rain last two years.

Agreed - 8 years max.
We have just replaced all the timber decking on our 'balcony' at work and that has been down for 10 years, but was only last treated 5 years ago.

depends on what you have laid it on , what kind of base it was built up on ,, rot can come from the bottom as well as the weather from the top,,

Thanks guys.
It was laid down 9 years ago and I only stained it with some Ronseal stuff from B&Q - not liberal amounts either.
Mark - it has just earth underneath but it is raised up on a wooden (joist) kind of structure.
I've replaced four of the boards now.
