Today started pretty badly, the post arrived -no log book for the NC I bought 9 weeks ago, even tho DVLA rang 14 days ago to say it was going in the post on 2 july. While emailing them (on the new 4G Android fone I got on saturday =nightmare for a technically inept 54 year old!) and at the same time surfing this newly discovered SD Forum(who says men cant multitask?) I decided that I needed to conect the new Fone to the laptop via Bluetooth so I could use some photo's that I had brought over from my old 3G fone. 3 hours later, after numerous attempts I gave up and went downstairs to get a bite to eat with the intention of taking my CB750 for a blast over the Snake Past to cheer me up,there on the door mat lay the V5 that had arrived by second post (better draft apology to DVLA for this mornings snotty email!). 10 mins later the NC was taxed, and 10 more minutes later ,after a whif of easystart the little darlin came to life(the bike is stored in a garage beneath some flats and I am banned from running engines anywhere near the place)after being stood since may. She is still on the stainless Motad that she came with so sounds rather odd but WOH! What an eager little beast of a bike. I have lusted after a black NC since I bought the reprint of the Haynes Manual (with the later updates chapter) that had one on the cover ,around 1985! It is so much better than my (admittedly,overgeared)250,simply light years ahead of it! On my 40 mile shake-down ride I was blown away,it really is exactly as good as I had hoped it would be - small, nimble, like the 250 but with torque and free-revving extra power, even from 40mph in 6th gear,it jumps to when the throttle is opened. I have not given it a full speed run yet so I dont know how fast she will manage but in normal,pushing-on riding she was topping 80 with seemingly plenty more to come.
A couple of little niggles-the indicator warning light and high beam warning lights stopped working after a few miles,to be expected as I had to create an instument pod from several broken ones ,not a problem because I am fitting a new headlight in next few days and will get to bottom of it then. I stopped at Sainsburys to gas her up and the little so and so's right hand carb flooded and created a puddle that the cashier was most upset about,I turned the pet-cock off then back on and the leak stopped and has not returned (yet!). Apart from these little issues (and setting off without checking the tyre pressures-18psi in front, and realising when I got the bike out that the side panels were in my bedroom back at home) it was quite possibly the best ride I have had in ages. What a truly magnificent little bike! I am absolutely stoked! It really seems the perfect bike for me,yep,it's been a GOOD DAY
