I agree bud, but on my steed should it have tubed or tubeless tyres? I just dont know....
Just taken a gander at what is on there now - the rear is a tubed Metzler and the front is a Battlax...but I cannot see if it is tubed or not....
Like you mate, I want to get it right really........

My understanding is original Comstar 1.85 rims need tubes, reverse Comstar 2.15 rims will take tubeless....

Yours should be tubeless, Carl.
But my understanding is that there is no safety issue if you are running tubes.....or is it the other way around?
Dang....this is why it's best to always be 'correct'.

Simple rule - you can put a tube in a tubeless tyre but you cant run a tube type without. Also I believe the same as Crouchy that early Comstars need tubes, later types dont

Good point on the constructions. And of course some tyres are only for front, some only for rear, and some for either but need fitting opposite directions. Also don't assume you can just fit a tube in a tubeless tyre- not all manufacturers recommend this either for any or some of their range.
Simple really!

To keep it even simpler, just stick with this and you'll be fine:
Standard Comstars use tubes.
Reverse Comstars are tubeless.
I've just fitted Heidenau tube type to my 1979 model and I have Metzeler Tubeless on my 1982 deluxe model.
At one stage though, the deluxe was fitted with Pirelli City Demon tube type tyres with no known detrimental effects - it just bugged me that they weren't correct.
