Hi all, I’ve just bought a 1979 250n superdream and while doing a general service I noticed that the air filter was soaked in oil!!!!!. This is very strange as the engine doesn’t vent into the air box, the breather hose connection on the air box is blanked off. Is this normal. Atb Peter

This being a foam filter system rather than a paper system like a car, it is common practice to dampen the foam with oil. This adds a sticky element to trap fine particles for improved efficiency. However, some people do over-do it. So in short, you don't have a weird oil leak. It's fine.

It’s probably got about 150/200 ml of oil on the filter, I think that’s a bit much lol. I’ve also got another strange problem with fueling, the bike runs really good when cold but as it warms up it starts to miss fier to the point where the engine cuts out. It’s just as if the fuel has been tuned off. This even happens when using a remote fuel supply ( in case the vent hole in the fuel cap is blocked). I tried draining the carbs and found that the left hand float bowl was empty!!!!!!. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? Atb Peter
