Yes good call. I bought one on Amazon for Aboyne £25 and it saved my father in law a fortune in seeing what the codes meant etc. worth a dabble.

I have a Foxwell I keep in the car
The most common problem with Diesels is the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) - When the engine management light comes on it is from my experience related to the DPF and a regeneration tends to clear the fault.
The issue is when the engine management light is on the auto DPF regeneration goes to inactive.
Clearing the code and then a blast down the motorway at 60mph in 4th then forces the regeneration
I always check the code first before clearing and in true fashion state do this at your own risk
