I don't know much about the GS, yet again a past friend had one, his brother has it now, not looking quite like this but brings back good memories...I do think his side panels where white but a long time ago and not seen the bike in a while and from what I am told, might not want to. The CB900 has always been a fav of mine, I had the CBX1000 but the CB900 was faster and handled better and just felt a better all round bike...but that 6 cylinder engine, I would buy another just for that........to sit on the saddle and look down and see that the engine is wider than your legs....oooof! But had a CBX, so a cb900 will be on the list. ( I remember seeing one about 10 years ago, a silver one going for £5k, absolute mint, I really did think about it) Gee.

The GS should have a nose fairing with mirrors attached to the fairing itself and larger carbs, I owned one, great bike but quite weighty.
Can't comment on the KH but my RD350B is like a zoomy push bike !!!

Ahah, more memories.....his did have a cockpit fairing...I remember loving the speedo cluster as I loved the GSX250E 8v at the time while having my SuperDream. I could never understand why the GSX250 never sold better, it looked great. On your Yamaha, just googled it...lovely looking bike they were, you can see the progression to the 400...I did ride an RD400 back in 84 I think, a friend had one, he also had an RS1600i Escort that I drove on the same night....conflicting orgasms (couldn't think of a better word) Post some pics of the 350 please. gee.

The day I bought it, never been clean shaven since
The day ORH arrived.

Depends why you are buying it I guess. The GS is a better bike in every way, and is a design generation newer than the KH. If you think about the bikes reputation in their day, maybe that will give you pointers. The GS was considered an agile. fast and sweet handling bike that in the real world was a far better proposition than its (then competitors). It also has a virtually bulletproof motor (formed the basis of many a drag bike). The KH400 was always an also ran, it never had the (alleged) performance of the bikes that came before and was not really considered competitive against its peers (RD400, CB400F, etc.), it was also not a great handling bike - even by the standards of the day, and it was not the most reliable of beasts.
On the other hand the KH400 looked good (and still does)
I had a KH250 (would you believe I gave it away in the 1980s because my wife wanted the space in the garage!), loved it for its style, but it was eclipsed by its peers (even my GT250 was materially better). There are not that many KH400s left, I think primarily because nobody (then) saw the value in preserving them, they simply were not that good - of course time has changed that view - if only we had known!
I would go for the GS if its for riding, perhaps the KH if its a "look at" bike. The GS is reliable, fast, handles OK, and (I think) looks great (simplicity!)
The CB900 is a great bike, and a generation newer in design, I have had one and also its sibling the CB750FA, to be honest, the 750 was the nicer bike (though the 900 had the performance edge the 750 was sweeter to ride). Both are still pretty good value (relatively)
The wheels on the KH look odd - wonder where they come from, clearly a closer look would be needed to see what else is not standard
The GS has been on Ebay for an absolute age (I was in the market for one), its clearly not got the right colours etc as it looks like a GS1000 painted to be a GS1000S, might be worth making a cheeky offer
At the end of the day its a personal choice, not always based on logic, my bet is both will make you smile!

Well put honda dealers were like corner shops one on every corner a small town like Doncaster had 3 yamaha had lots Of dealers suzuki and kawasaki were thin on the ground .as I said went in to buy a cb900 the gs1000e did not do it for me then seen that blue and white 1000s a week later it was mine. In the end it needs to go I had worn the side stand lug down and the left engine cace was nearly through traded it for a 1100 big kat and carnell fell out with me they scraped the gs1000.as a investment the kh400 is the one to go but not that one its a mongol it as yam ypvs running gear the gs1000 do not bring big bucks not like the honda 750 and the z650 and 900 .there are better ones on the market than them two me bin there done that there were cutting edge in there day all they are now are eye candy bike night rides

IMO the KH is wildly over priced , wheels and maybe swingingarm are 1986 ish Yam bits so not "period" alloys at all , a mate had Lesters on his KH , the frame paint looks thick & lumpy , gearlever welded together with a weld possibly worse than mine etc ! For me the GS although not original , if that matters , looks more "proper" . :-)

I was wondering if you could explain the sweetness you talk about between the two bikes?

I was wondering if you could explain the sweetness you talk about between the two bikes? The 900 was lumpy, and though not peaky it had a less predictable power delivery, the 750 was smoother and had an almost linear, power curve. The 900 also felt heavier (it was not much heavier in reality). They were both great. I just found the 750 nicer to ride.
