The “King Bodger” takes his final bow (I hope). Got round to having a proper look at the brake caliper. I noticed something odd when I got the bike but got on with other stuff, didn’t realise what was going on till I compared it with another caliper. So if anyone wants a “smart bleeding” caliper drop me a line. 🤪

I can't tell if it's weld or some kind of filler. If it's been welded up, I have to confess to doing something similar on a CB125. The thread was stripped & a replacement calliper hard to find, so I welded it up & fitted one of those brake line banjo bolts that includes a bleed nipple.

It’s since been blasted, I basically put just about anything metal away with the frame and had it “whacked”, everything was so manky. I’ve brought it up a bit with a scotch brite drill attachment thingy, penny dropped while I was doing it. At first I thought it was just a rough stop a leak job but then looked at some other pictures (oh dear). My Superdream education continues and I’m still glad I’m in. (They’re coming to take me away). 🤪🍻

so it looks like its been alloy welded? the guy I use for that hates any steel being left in a hole. so it might be repairable, could be worth filing it flat to about the right angle and then applying a magnet as a check before drilling. fiddly job but probably do-able

Can’t make it any worse. I’ll also try and source a caliper.

So after a wee wait I got myself a caliper. Initial looks were that it looks quite good. So first things first, the bleed nipple. Tried a gentle loosening, wasn't having it and didn't want to force it. I've left it sitting for a week or so and have given it a spray of WD most days, did the same with pins.
Wahey, result. Nipple came loose very easily along with one of the pins. Other pin is still tight so I'll give it another wee while soaking before moving on.
