Looking to replace my Cb400nc 1983 front discs , my question is are cb400n discs the same ( can I use or fit them ok on my model) and information on this would be very helpful thank you 🙏

On CMSL the part numbers are 45251MA1770 for the twin pot 83 NC and 45251415612 for the earlier single pot models suggesting they aren't the same. From the diagram it looks like the NC is vented so they might be interchangeable

when I got my 400 kicker it came with the later type calipers fitted, when I took them off the pads had only been partially contacting the disc, potentially leading to a very dangerous scenario when the pads wear to the point that the unused parts touch together and then you have no front brake. that could have happened for two reasons, firstly the wrong caliper brackets (I think they are correct though) secondly as you say the later discs were different. have a look on german ebay, its a good hunting ground for decent SD bits

Thank you for the information I did look on Cmsl web site and see there were different numbers but sometimes parts are interchangeable . As my nc have the twin pot callipers I was thinking maybe there are a bigger disc to give a slightly improved braking

As my nc have the twin pot callipers I was thinking maybe there are a bigger disc to give a slightly improved braking Discs are the same diameter, the NC has the cut outs as the pad touches a smaller diameter I think but more of the radius Going back to my ‘O’ Level physics from 1978 friction is independent of area in contact but dependant on force, I assume the force via the twin pots is more than the single pot 400 callipers

(the USA CB400T Hawk has a single left disc of that larger diameter, for example)
