Hi all I'm looking for some advice my 400 has no spark, the stator tests good and all the wiring checks out ok but I only have 0.2 volts to my coils, has anybody had this fault before....thank you in advance

Hi , Welcome , my first check would be to disconnect the black/white wire under the tank - that takes any problems with the ignition switch or kill switch out of the equation . If still no spark the CDI must be a likely cause , IIRC the 400 unit is less reliable than the 250 one which is easier/cheaper to source and I believe will work on the 400 albeit with different advance curves . Good luck .

I would think that you'd only get part of the advance with a 250 cdi on a 400, the advance units are coils in the stator in both systems, the 400 has 4 wires and the 250 only has three. I think the difference is the second signal on the 400 outer pick up but the wire itself (I think) comes from another coil, as Marcus at rex's explained to me the 400's are an unbelievably complicated system and sadly very expensive to repair. the only related models to the superdream with the advance curve built into the cdi are (again, I think) the cb350/450sg and the cmx rebel bikes. these models used an AC cdi, basically one of the windings on the stator provides AC power directly to the cdi unit, all the rest charge the battery through the rectifier. thats currently the type of stator I'm running on my 400 thing (tm) but I'v paired it with a german made DC cdi thats fully programmable

I cant find figures in any of the manuals I own as honda never provided them.

The CDIs on both my 400s failed, but I had no problems with my 250NB, and that seems to be the case with others on the forum. When my 400N CDI packed up, I ran it for quite a while with a 250 CDI & couldn't notice any difference, but that's probably my riding . Be careful if it turn's out to be the coil at fault, a few people have have had problems with pattern coils. Seems some are points based & don't work well with CDIs. Rex do suitable coils as well as their CDIs.

Following with interest as I had similar problems. I got a new coil from Rex’s and so far it has improved the situation

Yep, had a Rex CDI on my 400N a few years now with no problems.
