Hi guys, with Royal Enfield taking off well in the UK sales wise, I was wondering how they compare to a 70's bike...ie, the Dream/SuperDream.
I was told the 350 at 21hp was good for about 70.
I know the 250 SuperDream has 27hp and a tad heavier...but the power to weight ratio must be close.
Now then, it comes down to 40 plus years of technology.
I plan to ride one next weekend but what do you feel?
The guys that have them of course.....oooh 650 included against a similar 70's 80's bike?
Gee.

Comparing the 250 SD with a 350 Meteor ,the SD has more top end (claimed 85 by Honda ) in the real world best I got was around 75 at high revs ,the meteor will do 72 no more but the engine is very relaxed at that speed it will hold it for a long time, where the Meteor shines is with it's torque (27nm) on the Yorkshire run I was going up the hills in third and the bike just went up them with no drama at all it just kept pulling and pulling and Buster found us some proper hills .As for a comparison between the Meteor and the 400 SD I feel would be unfair as the 400 has so much more give

I agree with Terry for my Hunter 350. I was a bit worried about it when I got it, 20hp sounds pathetic. It hasn't been a disappointment though. The torque makes the performance stronger than the 250SD, but my 400s just have the edge - but not by much

I think straight performance is one measure but being comfortable and at one with the bike is the key
I have ridden my interceptor to both meets rather than the 400sD just because at the Derby meet I did 350 odd miles in a day and Yorkshire 558 miles over 3 days.
Derby meet used the Motorway on way up and back - Yorkshire Motorway back to try and beat the rain
The SD feels slightly uncomfortable at 60mph whereas the RE coped with 70 on the motorway so easily
It’s the right bike for the day
I think if you compare the SD and REs one thing both have got right is balance of the bike getting it on the centre stand - my BSA C15 250cc is a night mare to get on the centre stand
I have to say I really like the RE Hunter and is on my list to watch - for me it will be a good replacement for my old Brit bikes at some point

I'v not ridden any of the enfields but I can say I was well impressed, looking in my mirrors, at how well the 350's pulled uphill in the dales

Heading back home down the A1 in the wind and rain I was struggling to keep up with Terry on his meteor it’s the torque on the 350 it’s excellent the wind was pushing the 250 back somewhat and I was struggling to keep 60 mph , though when I’ve been riding my Hunter which is a relaxed ride the 250 SD feels like a nippy bike to ride , both comfy for me but feel very different in the way they deliver their performance , the Hunter relaxed with loads of torque and very agile , the Superdream feels a bigger bike but nippier with slightly more top end speed unless your riding into a gale if so the Hunter would hold higher speeds due to the torque , both great bikes
