hi all
on general advice i have sent my fork tubes to steve at hardchroming
but i’ve only had one reply from them after three weeks ! have any body else had any dealing with them pls ? see

The pits at the bottom looks bad but the inner bushes what does the work what they have chromed looks OK and that's were the seal runs i know the un cromed part is not pretty but it's the bushes that do the wor

Strange they did not chrome the whole length, but as Mark said the part that's chromed is the important bit, also you won't see the bottom.
We're you also expecting the chrome to be more polished/shiny?
I think I would also.be pretty disappointed with that.

Philpots I think charge £120 per fork - they are very good |

this probably isnt strictly relevant but when I did my xbr up I fitted pattern (italian made) tubes from silvers, I wasnt impressed with the quality and I wouldnt fit them again. I'v dropped lucky a few times now buying secondhand superdream forks and the ones I'v bought have all been usable but if I did need a set doing I think it would be off to philpots with them, they might not be the cheapest but they get a good rep from members on here

Just checked in the garage I have 3 bikes with new fork legs and another set in the box for a xs650 never gave it a thought about the Finnish till this thread .they all look like your fork legs in Finnish so I asked a guy who knows what he talking about. If you want the shiny stuff that's called decorative chrome. But as the forks are basically rams they are hard chrome different process. It will polish over time but they have done whats needed

Thxs all for your comments I was charged £180 , I have use Philpots for my other bike he made a fantastic job should have sent him my honda forks but we live and learn .

were the forks badly pitted as they would have took a skim of them and chromed to the correct size are fork legs hard to get new for the superdream struggled to get 35mm forks for the xs650 but got some in the end

When I got my 400N the forks were very rusty & I thought they were beyond saving so I got a pair of pattern tubes from Wemoto & they've been fine. My 400NA forks were just a bit pitted, so I got them plated at Philpotts - excellent job. Not much difference in price, but I suppose I'm more confident in the Philpotts being properly hard chromed. Having said that, the Wemoto forks are several years old now & no signs of wear or rust

If Philpots are £120 a leg, and Wemoto are £170.88 a leg as shown below, I dont think you did to badly at £180 for the pair, from the looks of your picy they look serviceable enough.  |
