Rona and myself went out on the Dream yesterday, two up.
Only went to Aberfoyle, not far, 20 miles or so.
Will I go two up again on a 400 Dream....eh no.
Not a two up bike.
As we all know and the 250 is just the same, no power at all bellow 6000rpm....managable solo, two up....not so.
I dont like reving bikes too hard from stationary, but it needs it two up.
I need to remember its not a 400SF and its 46 in August.
Gee.

Not tried 2 up on my 400t, but I remember when I originally had one I often carried a passenger (usually my now wife), never had any issues and it was quite comfy and pulled OK, of course I would be comparing it to other bikes of the era rather than anything modern.
ON the other hand I had no qualms about reving the bike to the redline.....

There is no problem with taking the bike over 6000 no matter how old it is they were designed to go to 10000 and to get a 250 to get any were you need to rev them.plus the 250 is no torque monster plus to get all them 17 pony's on board you need revs. That's the problem with the 250 no get up and go but they get there in the end

I have no issues with revving the bike out, its a new engine in it.
Just not a fan of screaming it off the mark...especially two up.
Gee.

The power on yor bike all between 5 and 8000 and two up you will need to be in that range.i an not saying you need to keep it there but if you want to overtake a car or up a hill that's were you want to be.chugging along does more harm to a engine than high rpm.i am taking common sense here .I have built lots of engine's over my career car bike plant some there is no running in if they are going to fail they go bang in the first 5 minutes. Running in is common sense and takes about 100 miles then run normally if your normal is the redline in every gear if your not on a fizzy it just makes you look a dick

On the rare occasion my wife gets on my bikes these days she prefers my Superdream 250 , we just plod round a few local country roads for coffee and cake , I keep below 50 mph and only do around 20 miles , she feels comfiest and likes the position of the grab rails
