Hi folks question about these channels which I believe you can fill in. 1. What’s their purpose if they can be just filled in? 2. What do you folks do with them? New head bolts with the rubber bungs? Fill them in, gasket sealant, JB Weld?

I think a mix of what you have suggested
I have sourced a new set of bolts as I am about to do mine but 400 bolts are more readily available

When I rebuild my 250 top end I just the original bolts with rubber. They work fine if you clean up bolts from any corrosion.

I managed to get new bolts for my 400NA, but for my 250NB I had the slots welded up - problem solved forever

Obviously meant to say 'rebuilt' and 'just used original bolts ' 😀 Also if rubber is ok, it does not have to do a big job, just block the channel. Was a strange design the Japanese made here.

I think the idea is to give an oil feed to the thread on the bolt to stop it corroding and seizing, it doesnt work, and if it did work then why on earth didnt they do the 2 at the other side?
personally I favour Ian's trick of getting them welded and just using normal bolts

Thanks for the replies folks. I’m thinking clean up bolts and put on some new rubber or JB Weld.
