I insured my 1980 V reg 250 SD last week, so with some trepidation I went to the post office this morning to get the tax category changed to historic. I took the V5, insurance certificate and the V112 as instructed on the government website. Although you only need the certificate if you’re in Northern Ireland but I took it just in case. It could not have been easier! I didn’t need the insurance certificate or the V112. The insurance will be on the database anyway. The woman behind the counter did it in about a minute. Didn’t cost a thing. I did fill ‘HISTORIC’ in on the section of the V5 to change the taxation class. So it’s now taxed even though it’s free. I’ll have to renew it on every 1st of March every year now but it won’t cost anything. It’s quite apt it’s taxed from the 1st of March as that’s when it would’ve been taxed from when it was new, with it being registered on the 21.3.1980. She stamped the V5 which she kept to send to the DVLA.

Yeh did the same on my 'V' reg 250 last month. Also did a change of colour, so had to send off my V5, which you local sub PO did for me. All back and in order. Nought to pay going forward.

It’s great. I didn’t have to pay anything either. I was prepared for a battle but there wasn’t one!

Hope you don’t mind me jumping in but would I be right in thinking bike first registered september 1982 can apply for historic status from 01/04/2023?
