If the neutral light comes on when you pull the clutch in when changing gear, it’s the silicone diode at fault. Sometimes called a rectifier too. My 1980 250 SD was doing this. I found somewhere else on here what the problem was. The diode is located under the fuse box behind the left hand side cover. It’s a small black thing which just plugs into a two pin block connector. Mine had been bodged by someone previously with a small loop of wire but the diodes are only £10 from Wemoto. You can get them cheaper on eBay. There should be a before and after photo below.

The rectifier is the finned part down there but the little black box you refer to is needed and for a while it was getting scarce and is now expensive for what it is....

My 400NA had this fault on it when I got it long before this forum & it's predecessor, so I didn't know about CMSL & it's parts diagrams & part numbers. The original diode had gone short circuit, so I replaced it with an ordinary diode I had lying around I have since replaced it with a 'proper' one!

I used a very similar 'diode' to that as a main fuse on my 400/4. m6 bolts are a wonderful invention, never blew once...

They are confusingly called a rectifier too! It’s number 3 on the CSML exploded diagram - ‘rectifier, silicon’ it says.

Well I suppose with 4 of 'em, you'd have a 'rectifier'

Fist off, I have C & G in electronics. Technically they are correct in calling it a rectifier as the function of a diode is to allow current to flow in one direction. This unidirectional behavior is called rectification. My guess is CSMNL use Honda's description and we all know how precise they like to be!
