What brand oil filter do you prefer, and do any come with the gasket? Or do you usually re-use the old one?
Looking at the hiflo oil filter, air filter and NGK plugs on eBay for £21.99 Inc p&p

Oil filter would normally come with o ring. Air filter...no gasket seal are like hens teeth. I have had go without at moment or maybe if neccesary make one up from rubber somehow.

Ordered just oil and air filters from MSA direct, £11.20 delivered. I'll have to hope the gasket is ok ish or put a bit of sealant on it

The Hiflo oil filters don't usually come with the 'O' rings. There are 2 of them, one on the filter case & a small one on the bolt. They don't generally need replacing every time you change the filter. The oil filter Silvers sell comes with both.

Gasket and o-ring seemed ok, sounds nice with new oil.
It was slightly over full with old oil. New oil I've put 2.5 l in it and it's full on the dip stick. Is that normal?

Sounds about right. I fill mine from a 1 Litre container with a spout & have to fill it 3 times, using quite a bit of the 3rd litre.
