There appears to be a real art to positioning this style of decal on a Superdream tank in my opinion. I have seen a number of nicely restored bikes where I felt they were spoilt due to the decal being placed just slightly wrong on the tank - most often they appear to slope down too much from the tank to the seat. It seems that it doesn't take much to place them incorrectly and make them look just wrong. I imagine it is difficult to apply the tank decals in the correct location whilst also trying to make sure there are no air bubbles? In my view Honda got the decals and their positions just right on the first 250s and 400s, as well as the subsequent 250s. Not wishing to offend anyone but I much preferred these decals to those used on the later 400s.

Having done one or two, this is not a great example. You are quite right that a good restoration can be ruined. This fella makes me feel exasperated because he has stumbled into so many mistakes that could have been avoided. Just Google superdream forum and most of his cock-up's wouldn't have happened. Perhaps it is a "followers" thing 🤔

My 400NA had a 'custom' yellow paint job when I got it. I decided to make it look a bit more like a Superdream. All the SDs I saw back in the day were blue, with the 250 400N type decals, so I got a set of Ebay. I had no idea how to apply decals and there was no forum back then, so I looked at a few photos on-line to get an idea of the positioning, pulled the backing sheet off & stuck 'em on - no water to adjust them or smooth out any bubbles, they were just STUCK! Luckily, not too badly positioned......pity I didn't know 400NAs had different decals . And the colour? I'd recently fitted a new front wing to my lad's Peugot 206 & had a some blue paint left over........
