Hi guys, who greases the wheel spindles when putting the wheels back on. I thought the wheel bearings took the strain for the spindles. I can't recall doing it to my bike's but memory not what it used to be. Gee.

I always give them a wipe with grease or silicon chain lube, a little easier to put through perhaps without damaging the zinc plate, but mainly to prevent them corroding over years inside the hub.

Same as John. I don't know if it's necessary, but it's something I've always done - smear the bolt with grease figuring that some of it must end up in the bearings & can't do any harm.

Cheers guys, thinking along the same lines, for all the mileage the bike is going to see, I will let the wheel bearings do their job. Gee

Have always done if from memory, assume its more corrosion protection than anything but obvs helps the spindle slip in nicely too - cant beat a tub of Castrol LM. Regards, bb

If you've got stainless spindles its also an idea to prevent galling.

yep, a lubricated shaft will always go home better than a dry one

I'v actually got more hondamatic bits than I know what to do with, never accounted for the top end differences when I converted it to 5 speed manual
