Yes the sacrifice these men made should never be forgotten.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.

Just seen the remembrance service on TV. Only BBC1 thought it worth broadcasting, while sports events are on most channels. I have the greatest respect for those who took part, including the less obvious such as SOE. Last year I was talking to some Normandy veterans who were collecting for this trip and they told me the government would not help them with this last trip for their association. Confirmed my opinion of politicians. May the memory of those who took part never be forgotten.

A day of reflection. 6 June 1944
It reads "70 years ago today I stood, hunched forward, squinting against the salt spray of the Channel waves. The flat bottomed landing crafts Diesel engines powering us toward the beach. The crack & whistle of rounds over our heads, the dull metallic thud as they hit the craft all around. Men prayed, men cried, men begged forgiveness or silently called to their mothers. I bent forward fighting the urge to vomit, my heart hammering against my chest and my bowels turning to liquid. Gritting my teeth, the flat bottomed craft hit the shingle of the beach...men tightened straps, shook hands and waited for the ramp to drop."
We salute you.

We will never forget, and a debt that can never be repaid.

That's the thing most of them were just boys, imagine today's teenagers and boys in their twenties facing the same thing now.
