did my last shift as a coal miner last night me and 285 were made redundant this week through the planed run down of two of the last three deep coal mines in the uk got three months to chill were is the sun family want me to have a go making a living out of my hobby will see if it stops raining of to barton bike night or the waterfront bike night will be at the hilltop bike night then down to the tickhill meet tomorrow mark

Might not be so rough....Mark will let us know.....but I knew quite a few miners from the Welsh vallies who were quite glad to receive their papers and leave the pits for good. Not the most healthiest of occupations!!!
Trouble was, they saw the figures on the papers and thought that things would be OK for them, but didnt see the desolation and hopelessness that swept up the vallies following the pit closures. Promises were made about new hi-tech jobs being made available that just didnt materialise.

the government have a strange view of coal.. if they had spent a fraction of their green budget on creating clean coal power station it may work like it does in all other countries but now they are searching between the coal trying to find gas.... madness we live on a rock of coal and buy it in from the east

All the best Mark. Mining has always been a tough way of earning a living.
What is particularly sad is the destruction of quality well paid jobs when as Ivor says we are sat on vast reserves.
