I know I haven't frequented the site much in recent years, I've popped in occasionally but tbh my biking activities have been somewhat curtailed for quite some time, redundancy, a new job, my 2 lads growing up with all the stuff that goes along with that plus a nagging eye condition which makes riding less of a pleasure and more of a chore have all lead to this point. Some of you will know the story of NNR and some will not but my story is documented on the forum ( I still can't believe it but....) in the restoration section, so might be worth a read if you're interested.
In short I am putting my Candy Red CB250N-A up for sale, how and where is yet to be decided but I'm giving the heads up here first as this is where it all began for me and with my limited knowledge but the boundless enthusiasm of this forum it resulted in the bike I have today, NNR was bought new by me in January 1981, I had her for a short while relatively speaking but despite that I loved my time with her and I sold her when I fell for the charms of the RD250LC. Some 30 years passed and by pure fluke as explained in more detail in my original thread I became the proud owner of my original but somewhat dishevelled Super dream having had 10 owners since I bought her back in the day. She was not in great nick to be fair and that's when the mother of all resto's began. I never intended to get quite as carried away as I did but in the end I think the result was worth it.
NNR underwent a full nut and bolt restoration using only genuine Honda New Old Stock parts, pretty much everything that needed replacing was done so using NOS, but this was 10 years ago when NOS was somewhat more available and a bit more wallet friendly, to give you an idea, New old stock included: Wheels, both front and rear, Fuel Tank, side panels, rear cowl, twin silencers, both genuine Honda and rare these days, instruments Inc. speedometer, rev counter, binnacle, wiring loom, mirrors, handlebars, switchgear, all cables, air box, front mudguard, both front forks, engine casings, all nuts bolts, washers and filters genuine new old stock, electrical plate, rectifier, fuse box, foot peg rubbers, headlamp complete assy, battery, battery tray, rear mudguard, rear light, and more that I can't currently remember but I have £5k in receipts for parts alone, before any labour is factored in. I have a massive history file including pretty much every magazine including a test report from the period, a new old stock paperwork wallet with unfilled service book, all sales brochures from the period and more...
When I say more, the eagle eyed amongst you, and there are many will note that NNR is fitted with a NOS fuel tank for an NB which was produced in the same year as NNR but it had the cowl fin on the seat where as NNR does not. That said however I have a second NOS tank of the correct ( I doubt you will ever see another) type which has suffered a small accident at some time in its life, namely a mouse made its home in its box at some point and peed on the tank, this resulted in a small area of corrosion to one corner. I treated it with kurust and that seems to have sorted the rust, it still needs that corner painting which I'm told should be easy enough, I would have used that tank for show purposes if I was keeping her.
The other problem that many SD's suffer with is carb problems, NNR was no exception. In the end I gave up , bit the bullet and bought what I believe must be the last pair of NOS carbs out there, they were the last pair that CMSNL had and have all the linkages etc that you don't get if you buy the carbs individually, I can't bring myself to write down how much they cost but my wallet has just come off life support. I have fitted them but due to Lockdown I never got any further. I haven't been near NNR for some months but it is the final job to balance the carbs. She starts well and runs fine but the LH carb runs hotter, I am not good with carbs, they are brand new so should be reasonably easy to sort.
Mechanically NNR was always sound and the engine and frame numbers matched which is why I took the project forward, in essence the old bike was still there, she just needed sorting out. When I got her back she'd done 32000 miles which was still relatively low for over 30 years averaging a little over 1000 miles per year, the last proper owner had her for 10 years and he got too old to move her about ( in his 80's!) so sold it on to the person I bought her from, he bought her with the intention of strapping her on the back of a camper and touring in Europe but due to a change of plan he offered her for sale which is where I came in.
NNR has spent her semi retirement in a dry and well ventilated garage under a heap of blankets, she looks as good today as she did when I completed the restoration 5 years ago. I even bought some front engine crash bars quite recently to add some period charm ( Thanks Steve!) they are in great condition. If there is any interest from the forum please PM me. £4250 firm to include the spare tank, a NOS CDI and all paperwork.
So there it is, a genuinely tough decision but one that is final, it may take a week, it may take a year but I will find the right buyer, This bike won't be of interest to many but she is a bit special, she is in fantastic factory finish condition and I look forward to meeting the next custodian of my very special Honda CB250 NA, the little bike that started a life long association and passion with biking and one that it seems will draw it to a close....
Thank you for taking the time to read this and in an ideal world I'd love NNR to go to either a Super dream enthusiast or maybe a motor museum only time will tell..
