Sighhhhhhh
Changed the oil recently. Oil filter too. I now have a leak which seems to be coming from the oil filter housing. The seals are new, the filter of course is new, the spring is in place and I’m stumped. The filter housing looks like it has seated against the engine very well.
I emptied the oil again today and took the housing off, took it apart, cleaned it, made sure all was ok and put it back. It’s still leaking. It only seems to happen when the engine is running, or it’s too slow to notice when the engine is off.

The old O ring looked to be in good condition anyway. If I doubled up and put it back on, would I be doing any hard? I need to degrease it all and then run the bike. But by the time I notice it, I bet it’s covered a fair amount of the housing and I’ll be back to square one. I’m now officially sick of draining the oil. Especially outside where the wind loves to blow it around.

Just a suggestion but have a look at the cover to see if it has a hair line crack in it.
It could have been over tightened in the past and has now failed.

I’ll take it off and take a proper look on Monday perhaps. If that’s the problem then easy fix.

Just changed the oil and filter this week on the dream ready for battle this summer as one of my friends as just picked up a kh400 and it will happen. Just having a moment were people take a newspaper looking at the oil filter diagram and mine as not got the spring and washer fitted. Had the bike 13 years now and oil and filter changed every year and never noticed .

I don’t have a torque wrench and have a habit of over tightening. I may have even caused the crack myself if there is one. If there isn’t, could over tightening be a reason for the leak?

Hello is the leak from the housing face or the bolt.i know the housing has a rubber seal but I still put a smear of sealer on the face as I have never changed the seal in 13 years.if the bolt are you shore you have not cort the o ring.a normal 17mm spanner will tighten the bolt with little effort if it has cracked it will be around the bolt hole .it's best to smear oil around the o ring when fitting less chance of nicking it when fitting

The oil droplets form on the fins of the oil filter cover. The seal was smeared with oil prior to fitting. I’m going to clean the cover and start the bike. I’ll be watching for the leak to see where it comes from. Doesn’t seem to come from the oil drain hole. Just around the filter cover

So I drained, dismantled and cleaned. Now it’s all back together and it looks just as it should. No cracks, no dirt, nothing. I’ll see if she leaks when I start her up.

Retested and it’s leaking directly from the seal. I’m also getting smoke from the cylinder head, but bare in mind I’ve just installed another set of downpipes so perhaps it isn’t sealing very well and may be a symptom I hadn’t seen before.
The old seal leaked. The the seal leaks. What to do..??

Rode the bike to work today. It cut out not far from my destination and I think the reason was being low on petrol. I hadn’t even used the reserve but she just wouldn’t start. A nice man took me to the petrol station in his van, where I filled her up. Got her going eventually. Just then I realised I’d left my gloves and helmet where I’d broken down. 2 minutes of riding without both, I got to where she’d cut out, just to see my helmet had been nicked. They were kind enough to leave the gloves though!
The only silver lining? I think I’ve fixed the oil leak.
