I was wondering if anyone else has had a snapped exhaust cylinder head stud.
I have, it wont budge and now needs rethreaded. I believe they are M6 size.
I have managed to drill most of it out but it has taken the threads with it.
Has anyone rethreaded it, the head is still part of the engine and the engine is still part of the bike, so will have to be done insitu.
Cheers. Gee.

You could consider fitting a heli coil. Have a look on ebay for a kit

as roger says or tap out to 7mm and fit a7mm to 6mm step down stud that's if you have not made the hole to big i think they do a 8mm to 6mm stud if you have. coil kits are good not expensive and are stronger

Hi Gee Only thing I would add if drilling with engine still in the bike is to meause the depth you are drilling into the Head and wrap some tape around the drill bit (a fair amount) so that: - You make sure you only drill to the required depth;
- if the drill bit snatches and pulls the drill bit in; it will bottom out on the tape and not pull the drill bit in further.
It should all be fairly straight forward with no problems really, but, I think a of bit belt and braces never hurts and have heard of people drilling out more than they should!
Beat of luck.

Hi Gee
I did say the only thing I would add, but, not true LOL.
I apply Permatex Nickel Anti-Seize to the Cylinder Exhaust Studs to help prevent studs seizing in the Head as I think it better than the usual Copper Grease.
Just a thought for the future, though some may think its a bit OTT.

When I did mine I drilled it to 5.2mm then run a 6mm tap down it which cleared out the rest of the original thread
