After listening to Ian’s bike with the Dunstall Replica silencers I’m so glad Santa brought me a pair , can’t wait to fit them 👍🤟

A long long time ago the vermin that was the guy who lived next door got himself a 750 commando fastback it was heaven to here that big twin.it was not long before he decked it .it was in are shed for about 6 months when he came round with a John player kit for it and the Dunstall two into one in to two system.as he was a dimwit he got me to fit the kit i was only 15 but my mams brothers had tort me well that bike was the biss. Got a couple of rides out of it before I gave it back it was not long before he had it down the road but it was not coming back this time and he went off bikes after that and I found out what a nonce was.i have had it in the back of my mind if the superdream system let me down I would make a two into one into two .just a thought while watching life on Mars

On that note Mark my CM came with original silencers one perfect the other fit only for the scrapman I considered turning it into a two into one by capping one side of the collector box at the rear so all the exhaust gasses exited by the single silencer on the other side ,it should work fine but unsure how it would look

I’ve made my decision. I’ll be sourcing a couple down pipes and I’ll purchase some chrome exhausts to fit on each side. I would be leaning towards wrapping the baffles. Anyone know a brand which will last? I don’t fancy repacking it on a weekly basis.

Thanks Terry!
I’ve been looking around for exhausts and on eBay they have some good looking stuff. A lot of it is made of iron though. They’d rust from the inside out. Where can I get some stainless steel pipes that would suit an old classic like the superdream?

Not seen any stainless systems you'd probably have to make your own or modify something of a different bike on the plus side though the mild steel systems we're using do a lot of miles before they die so maybe get a spare set to put away for the future

I think I’ve found one. I’ll be speaking with the seller to make sure. I don’t fancy a rotten exhaust in a few months time. Thanks again!

I think this is the one, or something similar! I’ll post some pictures once I’ve completed the work. Probably next month.

Hi bigginger, I noted at the start of the thread you said "basically I want it loud"....I think I may be able to help on that one.. I had a pair of Silvers downpipes, a meter of 1.5" stainless tube, two 15 degree 1.5" stainless bends, and some stainless exhaust mesh bought from ebay. I put this lot together to make the exhaust in the first pic.....Loud..... you bet! To avoid being lynched by irate neighbours action was required. Back in the 60's when the Honda 305cc CL77 was the thing to have for trail riding in the U.S. they had a similar problem, the Snuff-or-Not aka Snuff Nuts solved the problem. I found some on ebay (which is where I copied the attached pics from)...wrong size very expensive, but enough info in the pics to have a go at making my own. Big improvement not good enough though, added some cheap decibel killers and some stainless pot scourers as an absorbent packing material and peace and harmony returned to the neighbourhood. Turning the snuffs on takes about 20-25% of noise for early morning start ups.

That’s rather brilliant. Such a simple idea. I had planned to fit universal exhaust to the down pipes, wrap the down pipes and add a baffle and exhaust packing. I think that’ll make things quiet enough to keep the neighbours at bay. I have no fabrication abilities whatsoever so whatever I buy has to just fit together 😆

The cheapest option is to cut open the Motad silencer and take the guts out...I bought a 250 modded like this a couple of years ago and it did sound good(afraid I let the pipe go a few weeks ago) Simply hacksaw the silencer next to the weld joint ,disembowel it ,then weld back up-free ,assuming you have a welder(or a mate with a welder). If you want to go the two into two route I have some used down pipes and collector boxes for sale then just bag some cheap ,noisy ebay silencers !

I’m definitely not going to go down the route of welding anything. I don’t have the knowledge or equipment. I also like the 2 exhaust look. I still plan on getting a couple down pipes and some decent mufflers from eBay. How much were you selling the down pipes for? Are they in good condition?
