Hey guys!
I’m new to owning a superdream. I picked up a 250 last night for £1200.
It has a few issues but I’ll get to those when the time comes.
For now, I wondered the best way to mod the exhaust? I can’t find anything I could just buy. Basically I want it loud. The twin engine sounds great when not silenced but the originals exhausts. I actually have the Motad exhaust if that helps.
Thanks

Would I need to cut the exhaust in order to fit one? I have the two into one exhaust so won’t need a twin set.
Thanks for the reply!

Hi there, welcome along. I've got those silencers on my 400N & I can confitm they are LOUD! A bit too loud for me, so I got a pair of mutes from the same supplier - just right for me, but still louder than original silencers or a Motad. I was going from a Motad to a 2 into 2 system, so I needed a pair of kick-ups to connect to the down pipes. Don't know how you'd go on fitting one to a 2 into 1 system, but they come with a few adapters to fit 35/38/40mm pipes. The ebay supplier have their own website, www.classicbikeshop.co.uk/ and do a range of universal silencers & give dimensions which should help you work out if they'll fit, plus accessories to make them fit. www.classicbikeshop.co.uk/exhaust-pipes-silencers/silencers/universal-custom.html?p=2

Could you provide a video of the sound of your exhaust with the mutes?
It’s possible I could get two down pipes and attach straights to those (or mutes). If they aren’t in great condition I could always wrap the down pipes.
While I have you, I also have rust in the tank. Any advice or knowledge of costs to have that fixed?

This was a bit of a challenge - and I failed I've never done a video on my phone before, but I manged that bit ok. I can't get it onto the forum though. I've tried 'add image' & 'add attachment', but it seems to be too big. Anyone know how I do it? Tbh, it's a bit rubbish anyway, the recorded sound isn't as good as the real thing. My wife's comment was 'tell him I ride behind you & I'm saying it's LOUD' The silencers come packed with a small amount of sound absorbing mat, so I add more to quieten it down, but it was still a bit load, so I went for the mutes. If you decide to fit one, I'd just try it as it is, the noise might be fine for you & if not you can easily add more packing or mutes later. I'm off to add my t'penny worth to the rusty tank post now......

Wow. That really sounds great and you even mentioned the video doesn’t do it justice.
I’m so tempted to have a louder exhaust but because I have the 2 into 1 exhaust I don’t think it’s possible. I’d need to get the twin down pipes again, no? Then fit new mufflers on those? The good thing is I could probably recoup the cost by seeking the 2 into 1 exhaust.
Any way I could work around the 2 into 1 or is it just not happening?

By chance, I went out on that bike today. Temp was 3 degrees so plan was to go on the rat bikes with heated grips, which in my case is the 250N but with the rubbish weather I haven't used it for several days & the longer it's left the longer it takes to start. It always does start, just need more churning of the starter & today the battery gave up first so no go The 400 on the other hand starts straight away no matter how long it's been left. The roads were dry so I used the 400N instead & it does sound good - not too loud, just right, I love it . Anyway, assuming your 2 into 1 is a Motad, looking back at pictures of my bikes when they had Motads, the joint between silencer & downpipes isn't far off the same point on both the Motad & the 400N This is the 400 with it's Motad. The joint between downpipe & silencer on the Motad is between the footpeg & brake pedal footpad and with the Daytona replicas & exhaust kick-ups from classicbikeshop & pattern downpipes from SIlvers and the 250NB with pattern SD silencers from classicbikeshop, HiLevel replica collector box & downpipes from Silvers So it wouldn't be too hard to join the 2 into 1 downpipes the the Daytona, except the end of those downpipes is a figure of 8 shape as the 2 pipes merge together with a matching shape on the ned of the silencer. Might still be possible though with a combination of cutting, tin-bashing and some sort of adapter sleeve. Classicbikeshop do various adapters & sleeves, but it wouldn't be too hard to knock something up - what do you think? As for a 2 into 2, the kick-ups on the 400N save about £50 on the replica collector box, plus no need for heat shields which can be expensive. The Silvers downpipes are about £60 + postage & the classicbikeshop silencers are just over £100 (similar to their replica SD silencers, with free postage over £100)) & the kick-ups £30. One disadvantage with the kick-ups is that they don't kick up quite as much as the collector box, so the silencer prevents the rear wheel axle bolt being withdrawn, but it's dead easy to remove the whole exhaust on one side just by unfastening the 2 nuts at the head & the silencer bracket nut on the rear footpeg

Having really given it thought, I think a twin exhaust is the way to go. Not only is it easier but I also prefer the look. I was disappointed when I learned my bike had the Motad exhaust. I think I’ll source some down pipes and wrap those, and attach them to some aftermarket chrome mufflers. Should look and sound wonderful. I’ll have to get a tight seal on the mufflers though. Besides welding, what can I do to prevent air leaks? I’ve tried exhaust sealant and bathroom sealant in the past. Both degraded quickly, though the bathroom doesn’t lasted a good while.

Good question! Did some of you guys used exhaust gaskets (between collector and downpipes /mufflers)? How are they fitted and how to determine the size needed? i mean these gaskets:

Silvers stock them for both front and rear ,the fronts are smaller than the rears On my set up I use front gaskets (down pipe to collector box but at the rear I have a metal reducer clamped in place like you would a normal set up with a three inch long inch and a half diameter steel tube slotted in , onto that I've clamped my kick ups and onto that the silencers themselves .The end result looks like this

I used the Silvers' gaskets on the 400NA & 250NB with collector boxes & replica silencers & downpipes, but the 400N set up is similar to Terry's with the kick-ups bolted directly to the downpipes & via the reducers supplied to the silencers.
