Clutch Retaining Nut on a CB400/250N Twins. I just wanted to post this thread as there seems to be a some confusion mine very much included on which way the Clutch Retaining Nut goes. When I was stripping down the Clutch on my Bike, the Clutch retaining nut was on the wrong way round according to the Official Honda Manual. It seemed a bit counter to the way Nuts are normally fitted and I couldn't find any Pictures anywhere to alleviate my concerns until I was told that it had been assembled incorrectly and its not uncommon.
Anyway here goes and apologies to all those who are well aware of this issue as I'm only a Newcomer to the forum.
The Thrust Washer should be fitted with the ‘OUT SIDE’ (see 1st Image) facing away from the engine. The official Honda Manual states that the Bevelled edge of the Clutch Retaining Nut points to the inside: - Image 2 shows Nut the correct way round with the flat side of the Nut facing away from engine;
- Image 3 shows Nut incorrect way round;
- Image 4 shows the dreaded Nut with the Bevelled Edge that should be pointing inwards towards the Engine when Fitting.
