first proper ride out of the year above malham up near malham tarn (you can just make out the puddle) gordale scar dropping down into arncliffe and lower barden reservoir on the bolton abbey estate on the way home

i had a ride about today seen a sorry sight at finningley or doncaster sheffield airport if you are not local.these were a sight all the time when i was a kid I watched the last takeoff and landing will never here those 4 olympus engines .i am talking about XH558 and her stable mate a canberra now been left out two years now.I know now that the first part of my life i was under a ussr cross a button away from vaporization HA HO .

says a lot about technology that we can restore spitfires but sadly we cant keep the vulcan in the air, shame as its a magnificent thing

The last remaining guy who was able to sign off any work for this aircraft retired. As there is strict rules about aircraft maintenance that was the end for her. They run the engines up every now and then I dare say there's a reason for that.

My old man, he's 85 now, who, apart from a short stint in Singapore on Belvederes, was at RAF Scampton as a Chief Tech on Vulcan 617 sqd his whole career. We used to live on base, god it was noisy, especially in the 70's when they were on permanent standby, you could hear the engines on ground test miles away.
Ironically, I live on base now, at the bottom of the runway, only 100yds from where we used to live.
