Hi all, My name is Andy and I live in Somerset. I have the motorcycle in the subject heading which I'm restoring. It was in a relatives garage for years and in a bad state of repair. I joined this forum to be in contact with other people who share a love of Superdreams and hopefully, get some much needed help.
The engine is stripped down and I'm struggling to find markings on the conn rods that I can cross reference with markings on the crank to correctly identify what shells I need to buy. The conn rods have S7 on the side and S5 on the end cap. Neither of these tie in with the cross referencing table I am using to identify the correct shells. Does anyone have any help they could give me please? Thank you!!!

Hi Andy, welcome along. Yep, that's a tricky one, I used a magnifying glass, but still struggled, but eventually made out the markings after trying several different light sources - think it was the kitchen window with the sun at it highest before I succeeded There's a thread on it here, honda-superdream.co.uk/thread/9287/working-crank-bearing-colour-codes but think you need 20 posts to see it & not sure how useful it is now the photo's have gone thanks to the t**ts at Photobucket

I'm really stupid because I cannot for the life of me see where, or how, to upload a picture? I have a picture of the crank with the markings. I cannot find any relevant Mark's on the conn rods to help identify the correct bearings.

first thing you need are the bearing codes from the upper crank case (crankshaft main journals) as you can see on my bike thats cbb. now you need the three letters on the crankshaft itself then pair these letters up (cbb case internal diameter and bbb main journal outer diameter) then cross reference these on the 250 chart in the haynes manual to find out which shells you need.

the con rods are a similar process. the number on the conrod itself (in this case 1) is the internal diameter of the conrods big end then you need the corresponding number from the crank (dont under any circumstances mix the con rods up) in my case 3, this is the crank pin outer diameter code, again cross reference with the manual then its fingers crossed time that they are available

Here is the photo of the crankshaft markings for the bearings. I believe I need 2 sets of black and one of blue. The markings on the gearbox housing is "CCC". I cannot find any marks on the conn rods except for "S7" and "S5". These numbers don't appear in the table for determining what bearings I need. I have looked at the conn rods using a magnifying glass and still no joy. There are no paint marks on the bearings either. I hope someone can help me as I'm absolutely stuck now. Thank you for your time. It's really appreciated!
