Hello,
After some initial teething troubles posting images, I’m ready for action !
My name is Monty, I’m 46 and I live near Newquay in Cornwall.
Up until very recently, I’ve been part of a very niche corner of the bike world. It'll no doubt bring a smile to some faces that I collect 1960’s 50cc push rod Hondas, predominantly the C100, predecessor of the C50. I won’t bore you with all the details, but over the years I’ve taken it quite a way. I’ve done some promotional work with my bikes for Honda Japan, prior to the release of the C125. I’ve built a bike for a film studio, I’ve sold a bike to David Silver, which is now in his museum, and I’ve bought and sold rare Cub parts to collectors all over the world.
To give you an idea of the type of thing I’ve been doing, here’s one of my bikes at the Carol Nash Classic in Bristol last year.
I was intending to build my next bike, all from super rare parts I’d collected from around the world, it would have been a £10K bike, but I just couldn’t justify having that much invested in a bike, which isn’t necessarily easy to sell, should I need to, as it’s a very small circle of collectors willing to buy something like that. I woke up one morning and decided to start selling, so that’s what I did. I still have three C100’s and I’m in the process of building another, but thought it’s time to do something new. My hobbies given me a love of Hondas and I was recently given a CB250RS by a very dear friend of mine, as he was very ill and passed away a few days ago. I’m currently trying to get it ready for his funeral as he wanted some of his bikes present. The photo below shows one of my unrestored C100’s, my RS and a friends CB400nc. I’ve been trying to get my hands on it for a while now, and he says it’s got my name on it, but it’s not made it’s way to me yet.
Im not the most patient of blokes, so became bored of waiting for my 400N. The other day, whilst trawling eBay, I stumbled upon this one. Not really sure what happened....but I accidentally bought it. It’s done 19K and has been unused since 93, although it has been started up periodically. It hasn’t arrived yet, it’s being delivered next Tuesday.
I'll post some better pictures when I get it. It’s a gamble, I haven’t seen it in the flesh or heard it run, but there we go, fingers crossed. My plans are to keep it original, give it a good recommissioning and a clean and get it through an mot. I suppose it’s to gain some knowledge with, and get my foot in the door, for when I finally get my hands on that NC.
Great to be here, I’ll start doing a bit of research and no doubt ask for help when the bike arrives.
Thanks for having me. 👍🏻
